Does having a vibrant spiritual life mean that you must devalue your physical life? Absolutely not. The gnostics believed that the spiritual world and the physical world were not only separated from each other, but also that the physical world was evil because it was made from matter. Even today this is still a popular position among Christians. However, this was never a Biblical view nor a Kingdom view.
Earthly Realm
Everything God created was good! This includes the physical world of matter, every particle, every atom, every cell. God’s purpose for creating the physical world was so that it too would be filled with His presence and glory. There were angels in heaven and there were humans on earth, not to separate but to bring together in perfect harmony and union. “Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). The place of union was known as the Garden of Eden or some would say, a garden placed on the east side of Eden.
God is all about union and not separation. Death in biblical terms was considered to be a state of “separation” or “disagreement” or a “divorce” from one another that started in the spiritual consciousness, which then convinced the mind of the soul, which then manifested into a physical reality. Death in biblical terms means to be “dead to the things of God because you chose to believe in the alternative, the lie of accusation & suspicion”. Thus, this is what humanity chose to do that brought “death” as a consequence of them choosing a life of wisdom without God, known as “eating (consuming/living off of) from the fruit” of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Spiritual Realm
Well, what happened? Most believers know the story that a rebellion in heaven occurred and a rejection on earth occurred. You most likely have heard of this ancient story as the “fall of man,” but that is a theological term that theologians injected into the biblical story to explain things for their own understanding because in the scriptures there is no mention of this phrase. Also, I like to mention here that Adam is not the first male human. Rather, ADAM means “humanity” and EVE means “mother of all life”. There was no one person called “Adam” and no one person called “Eve”. These are just “titles of representation” within the Creation of Order narrative found in the beginning chapters of Genesis to simplify an ancient account.
When humanity decided to do life without their creator, amnesia settled in and brought about a dimensional separation of the heavenly realm from the physical realm. The go-between of these two distinct dimensions is now known as the “spiritual realm” or “second heaven”. There is no revelation without relationship. This is one of the most basic principles or laws of the universe which God laid down. Therefore, “After He drove the man out, He placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life” (Genesis 3:24).
Heavenly Realm
So going back to the original question. Our existence here on earth is not what it seems. We have an ancient history that connects us to heaven itself. We have a spiritual umbilical cord from heaven that birthed us to this world as a physical manifestation of our spirit but clothed in a physical body. Our spirit is like a cell that came out of God Himself because we were created in His image in a collective representation or manner. The issue is that everyone is born with this distant memory and all have a measure of spiritual amnesia, and so this is where the Spirit of God comes into our lives to “awaken us” out of our dead spiritual state and breathe us into our true selves as His sons and daughters, following after the example of Christ Jesus, God’s one and only begotten Son (John 3:16). Therefore, when we realize that all this had to happen in the heavenly realm for us to come into this world of matter, it matters! Your physical life is so valuable because it is your physical body that carries heaven itself. Be holy. Be happy.
